Into the Light.

Nary a day goes by that I don’t take notice of how light works. How it’s there. How it reflects. How it makes itself known subtly as well as when it’s “in-your-face”.

It’s an innate need. Call it lack of having a good antidepressant in the medicine cabinet {if I had a medicine cabinet that is}.

I look for light because I need it to make me feel better. Having Seasonal Affective Disorder really stinks.

I lived in Seattle and count it as one of my all-time favorite places. But I had every type of artificial light product on the market.

I look back now at the photographs I took while living there and they’re all dark and sooooo moody.

How could they not be? August was the only month when the clouds parted and we could see Mt. Rainier AND the planes landing at SeaTac at the same time.

It was always a call for celebration.

All that aside I have noticed, since moving into my new studio space, that when the late day sun hits….. everything is all warm and fine.

I’ll catch myself watching as it creeps across furniture, filling the walls.

As it highlights anything with any type of texture.

And most everyday I reach for my camera and shoot a few shots.

I have about one thousand of those now.

Remember my recent post about the Wiley Building?

I photographed some test shots in a building recently that is going through another “passing of the keys”.

It’s so dang cute. With that white face that sets it apart.

It will be restored and updated containing three units with large floor plans and a modern look. A wonderful addition to the revitalization of Downtown Hutchinson, Kansas courtesy of the couple who now have the plan.

Brian and Anne.

The place has a rich business history. The people who walked the halls met with the folks of Hutchinson to provide everything from Home and Business Loans to Marketing and Advertising.

I want to photograph it in a way that will show off its’ handsome bones as it gets a facelift.

And the only things that I will need will be:

My cameras.

My tripod.

And you guessed it.

Light.

Which it was happy to provide the other day.

Looky.
